The Star of the Show:
Abbott Animal Health

Stephanie and Jennifer at the McKamey Animal Center meet Dr. Debra Olbrich, Veterinary Liason for Abbott Laboratories, to learn about the very real world of diabetic cats and dogs; and they can suffer from the same forms of diabetes as humans. Dr. Olbrich describes signs of diabetes in dogs and cats. At the McKamey Animal Center there are hundreds of dogs and cats, and just by the laws of percentages, some of them are diabetic. We meet a cat named Bashka, who is diabetic and will require blood glucose monitoring. Dr. Olbrich shows Stephanie and Jennifer how this can be done using an AlphaTRAK® Blood Glucose Monitoring System, a simple tool pet owners can use on their diabetic dogs and cats.

TRAKing Blood Sugar

TRAKing Blood SugarDid you know that 1 in 200 cats and 1 in 500 dogs are estimated to have Type I or Type II diabetes?

As a pet owner, you could be the first to spot the symptoms of diabetes. These are some of the symptoms a diabetic cat or dog may exhibit resulting from high glucose levels in the blood:

• Excessive thirst
• Increased hunger
• Frequent urination
• Weight Loss
• Fatigue or weakness

As a pet parent, monitoring your pet’s blood glucose is critical in managing your pets’ diabetes. The AlphaTRAK Blood Glucose Monitoring System from Abbott Animal Health is calibrated and validated specifically for dogs and cats. And you can perform the test at home!

Monitoring diabetic pets at home:

• Gives you the comfort of knowing your pet glucose levels and helps identify potentially life threatening diabetes complications.

• Provides you and your veterinarian with accurate data to help make informed treatment decisions.

• Saves you time and money, is easy and convenient.
