Firearms in the Home; Knowledge and Safety

Designing Spaces

Designing Spaces’ Debi Marie sits down with Chad Enos, Marketing Representative with Kel-Tec CNC Industries, a leading manufacturer of firearms, to talk about having a firearm in the house to protect yourself and family. The discussion covers safety, and protecting children from firearms with safes and biometric locks. Also, Chad points out how more women are becoming more involved with firearms, so he gives pointers on how to select the handgun that is right for you. He also recommends training for all adults in the household. The conversation also covers advice on transporting a firearm. As a wrap-up, Chad gives important safety tips for anyone owning or handling a firearm.

Tips and Training With Firearms in the Home

What safety measures can the head of the household take to assure there could never be a tragic accident?

Every adult in a home with a firearm in the home should be able to use a firearm safely and effectively.

Women are taking on the role of protecting the home as well as a man does. But before you buy, make sure you train and get help in choosing the correct size and caliber of firearm you would need.

Here are three tips for safety in the home:

  • Use Trigger Lock
  • Use cable lock – works on just about any kind of handgun
  • Store in a gun safe (small safes designed to fit 1 or 2 pistols with biometric locks) Put hand on it and it pops open

Kel-Tec CNC recommends a small handgun for sport and protection. Keep in mind you do not want a firearm that can penetrate the walls of your home.

Top Firearm Safety Tips:

  1. Consider EVERY firearm as loaded
  2. Never point your firearm at something you do not intend to destroy
  3. Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot
  4. Always know what is in front and beyond your target

Remember, a firearm is always considered to be loaded and dangerous.  Safety first and make sure that if you are using a firearm that you are trained properly.
