Cloudy pool water can be caused by several problems, so Designing Spaces got together with our friends at Clorox® Pool&Spa™ and brought in Rebecca, their New Products Manager, to show Debi Marie how she can keep her water clean and clear.

There are three possible causes for cloudy or hazy water: improper balance, poor filtration and circulation, or contaminants. Contaminants could be anything like lotion, sweat, dirt or even urine, which can be tracked into the pool from heavy use, wind, or rain.

Using the “Clorox Pool” App, Debi Marie and Rebecca are able to diagnose what’s possibly making the water cloudy and treat the problem with a few quick steps! After they make sure water balance, circulation, and filtration aren’t the causes, they pick up some Clorox® Pool&Spa™ Natural Water Clarifier as well as clean the filter with Clorox® Pool&Spa™ Filter cleaner. After running the pump for at least eight hours, results should be seen within 24 hours.

These few simple steps  to curing cloudy pool water will help keep water clear all season long:

-Run the pump for at least 8 hours a day
-Always maintain balanced pH (7.2 – 7.6) and Free Chlorine (1-4 ppm)
-Shock water weekly and after parties, rainstorms and high temperatures
-Chemically clean the filter at the pool opening and mid-season
-Ensure jets are pointed down so water is circulating properly.
