Christian Bale is making a positive impact in his community this year. He plans to build 12 foster homes in California as well as two studio flats to help children transition into independent living. Bale will also build a 7,000-square-foot community center.

The notable actor who broke into Hollywood at a young age when he starred in Empire of the Sun before starring in Hollywood blockbusters like American Psycho and Christoper Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Bale started the foster home project to attempt to keep siblings in the foster care system together, and ideally under the same roof.

Info on Project

The project is now being started and is estimated to cost around $22 million. It is expected to be completed in 2025. The foster homes will stand next to a park in Palmdale, a city 60 miles north of Los Angeles. The foster home village will be the first of its kind in the state of California.

Bale, 50, is the co-founder of Together California, the organization in charge of ‘the village’ project. The actor spoke a few words at the groundbreaking event, “Imagine the absolute pain and trauma of losing your parents or being torn from your parents, and then losing your brothers and sisters on top of that. That’s no way to treat kids. And so, we will be the hub for that. I hope that this village will be the first of many, and I hope that people, Californians, and Angelenos, know to come join us in opening our eyes to what’s happening right under our noses. These are our children, and we must help our children,” Bale said.

Bale’s Father Shaped Him

This passion project of Bale’s stretches back 16 years. The actor mentioned his interest in philanthropy is from his father. “I grew up with a dad who was always very active and altruistic,” Bale told the Hollywood Reporter. “And we would be headed to protests and shouting at Maggie Thatcher and stuff. As a kid, I didn’t really know what I was doing, but I loved it, and I just admired the hell out of my dad in that way that he went out of his way to care for other people.”

One thing for certain is Christian Bale is making a positive difference in the lives of many foster children. Bale hopes this first ‘village’ is the first of many around the state of California and the United States.
