Pop star Katy Perry has been in the news recently, but not for her music. Perry has been in an ongoing lawsuit over ownership of a home she purchased. A jury has finally reached a verdict favoring Perry. The lavish home was previously owned by Carl Westcott, a disabled veteran.
Who is Carl Westcott?
Westcott is the founder of 1-800-Flowers and attempted to rescind the deal he made to sell his lavish mansion to Perry. He claimed he “lacked the mental capacity” to sign the transaction due to a recent surgery and a brain disorder. Westcott is battling Huntington’s disease.
The Army veteran sought a rescission and cancellation of a contract in the suit. Westcott was found with no substantial evidence to support his claim that he lacked mental capacity when he sold the home according to Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Joseph Lipner. The couple bought a home for $14.2 million in 2021.
“This proposed decision is crystal clear — the judge has concluded that Mr. Westcott was in full possession of his faculties when he engaged in complex negotiations with multiple parties to finalize the lucrative sale of the property, which ultimately brought him a substantial profit,” declared Eric Rowen, attorney for Perry, in a statement to Rolling Stone.
A Look Inside the Montecito Home
The home in Montecito is considered one of California’s luxurious neighborhoods. The 9-acre estate comes with nine bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. The single-story home spreads across 9,285 square feet and offers views of the surrounding mountains and ocean. Some amenities include a gym, wine cellar, extensive yard, fireplace, hot tub, a large infinity pool with a waterfall, and lush greenery. A three-bedroom guesthouse is located on the property with a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean. The compound is the main residence of Perry and fiancée Orlando Bloom who hope to raise their family there.
It seems Katy Perry might have found her forever home, but it came with a long battling feud for it. The Westcott’s do not plan on appealing the judge’s decision.
