The original house from the iconic ’70s show, ‘The Brady Bunch,’ has been purchased by Tina Trahan, an art collector. Trahan is a home enthusiast married to Chris Albrecht, HBO chief executive. HGTV sold the property in property in Studio City, California. They originally bought the home in 2018 for $3.5 million.
The property offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans to call the iconic home their own. HGTV did interior renovations, making the interior design identical to the hit show. Trahan, a fan, purchased the home for $3.2 million.
The Brady Bunch Home
HGTV put the home on the market this summer starting at a steep $5.5 million asking price. Some would say that Trahan walked away with a “steal,” purchasing the home for $2.3 million under the original price. The home comes with five bedrooms and five bathrooms, covering 5,000 square feet, and sits on a 12,000 square foot lot surrounded by citrus trees.
Why Trahan Purchased The Home
According to People, Trahan told her agents she was “obsessed” with the home. She loves the mid-century ranch style the two-story home offers. Trahan plans on using the home for charity and fundraising events.
“Nobody is going to live in it. Anything you might do to make the house livable would take away from what I consider artwork,” she said.
Buyer Claims ‘Worst Investment Ever’
Although she is happy to own the home, Trahan has expressed the home is “the worst investment ever,” after HGTV invested about $2 million into renovations, according to Wall Street Journal. In her mind, the house is a work of art. She believes nobody wants to live in an overpriced and outdated house with old appliances. “I can’t even say the word investment — I’m going to say liability.”
Trahan thinks the potential buyers for this home that are fans of the show are getting older. The younger generation is not as familiar as fans are of the classic show. She believes this is what hurts the value of the property.
A big misconception among the public is that filming did not take place at the house. Yes, you read that right! Filming at the home only took place for exterior scenes and the opening credits. Meanwhile, all filming for interior scenes took place at Paramount’s studio in Hollywood. “The most common thing the public doesn’t realize is that this house was never used to film the show; it was only used in the opening credits,” Danny Brown, the listing agent for the property said.
The home definitely made its mark on pop culture. According to Redfin Listing, the Brady Bunch home is the second most photographed home in the United States, right behind the White House.
